STATISTICS:
As of December 15, 1999 the Bishop's Initiative on Children
and Poverty fund has received $391,503.67. This quadrennium ends in 2000. The Council of
Bishop's has extended this initiative for another four years. Which means we will continue
to receive money and we will continue to give
grants to local church ministries from the money received. Since May 1998 we have
disbursed $375,154. for 104 local church ministries for work with children and poverty. It
is difficult to imagine the number of lives that have been changed through these
ministries.CHANGED LIVES:
Listed below are some of the types of ministries that have
been funded by these grants. We need to see the changed lives that these ministries
represent and knowing than many more lives are touched through the ripple effect of these
ministries.
Eight Community Center ministries helping families cope with the daily obstacles
of life.
Three Ministries that feed the hungry both physically and spiritually
Seven Reading/Mentoring/Tutoring Ministries giving children and others a better view of
themselves and their abilities
Two Ministries both support in times of crisis
Eighteen Summer Ministries helping kids to continue to grow socially and spiritually
Thirty Five After School Ministries have given children and youth a safe and nurturing
place to be
Fifteen Child Care Ministries have touched the lives of thousands of children
Seven Community Computer Lab Ministries designed to help people be computer literate and
thus more qualified for today's job market
Two Special Needs Child Care Ministries help children with many obstacles believe in
themselves
Three Transitional Housing Ministries so that families and children have some options
during hard times
Two Counseling Ministries that work with kids who have been abused helping them to see
themselves and life in better ways.
