LAKELAND — Bill and Lisa Rhan (second and third from left), the Florida Conference disaster response coordinators, were commissioned June 24 as missionaries with the General Board of Global Ministries (GBGM) and appointed to a three-year term in the disaster response ministry of the Florida Conference.

"They are missionaries approved and commissioned by the General Board of Global Ministries...for service primarily within the annual conference," said the Rev. Stephen Goldstein, GBGM's coordinator for cultivation and the conference committees on mission personnel.

Although the Rhans will be working in the same ministry they had prior to their commissioning, some aspects are different. "It does give you a sense of belonging," Mrs. Rhan said. "We're officially part of a larger group of people working toward a common goal-alleviating human suffering."

The Rhans are part of GBGM's so-called "10·10·10 Program" under which conferences are challenged to provide 10 missionary positions, mission sites and churches in covenant relationship with GBGM. They have also been assigned two Advance Special numbers through which churches and individuals can support their ministry. Bill's number is 751704-2 and Lisa's is 751703-1.
