News in Brief

Dorothye Henderson sends regards to conference

Dorothye Henderson, the widow of Bishop Cornelius L. Henderson, recently submitted a letter to Florida Conference United Methodists for publication in the "Review."

Bishop Henderson died Dec. 7, 2000 after a two-year battle with multiple myeloma, a cancer of the blood. He had just begun his second term as bishop of the Florida Conference.

"Leah [daughter] and I will be eternally grateful for the many, many acts of kindness extended to us during the illness and transition of our beloved husband and father.

"We received more than 13,000 cards, letters and other expressions of love and concern over a two-year period, not to mention the visits and countless numbers of prayers and phone calls, from Florida.

"We are very grateful for the generous love offering and the many awards presented at the 2001 session of the Annual Conference. We are excited about the Bishop Cornelius L. and Dorothye Henderson Secondary School that will be constructed in Mozambique and intend to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

"Thank you very much for four-plus years as part of your conference, and I pray that God will continue to bless you as Bishop and Mrs. Whitaker provide you with excellent leadership."

– Dorothye Henderson
