New York City needs bilingual listeners

United Methodist Volunteers in Mission is looking for bilingual people to staff volunteer “Listening Posts” in New York City to counsel the families of victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center.

Volunteers must be Stephen Ministry trained, certified pastoral counselors or have a professional license. People who are fluent in Spanish, Cantonese or Mandarin are especially needed.

Young adults sponsor concert series

The Florida Conference’s Young Adult Ministry Team is sponsoring a series of concerts by Christian artist Bebo Norman.

Norman will be in Gainesville at the Florida Theater Nov. 1; at Killearn United Methodist Church in Tallahassee Nov. 2; and at Orlando’s University Carillon United Methodist Church Nov. 4.

Church holds adoption workshop

Orlando’s University Carillon United Methodist Church is holding a free seminar on international adoption Nov. 8, 7-9 p.m. “The ABCs of International Adoption” is presented by Dillon International, a Tulsa-based licensed, non-profit adoption agency. The seminar will explain the process of adopting a child internationally.

Historians invited to preservation workshop

Anyone concerned about preserving the records and history of local churches is invited to attend the Heritage Preservation Workshop Nov. 9-11 at Lake Junaluska, N.C.

The event, sponsored by the Southeastern Jurisdiction (SEJ) Commission on Archives and History, is for beginning and advanced historians.

Church teaches reaching with Alpha

Gainesville’s Trinity United Methodist Church will share how to reach seekers and help believers through the Alpha Program, a 10-week study that offers a practical introduction to the basics of Christianity with opportunity for debate and discussion.

Grants available to local churches for training

The Florida Conference Council on Ministries (CCOM) is offering a limited number of grants to help conference churches provide training in spiritual formation or leader development. It is also offering how-to information and resources on presenting quality training.
