Communications
director needed
The Florida Conference is seeking applications
for director of Florida United Methodist Communications.
The communications director reports to the
conference director of connectional ministries and works in
partnership with the chair of the communications ministry team.
Responsibilities include leading the Florida
Conference in developing and maintaining a comprehensive communication
program that utilizes proven corporate communication practices and
techniques to:
promote
connection among the conference’s local churches and individual
members;
motivate
disciples to be active in ministry and mission;
create a
vital presence within the community, enabling individuals to be
successful in their Christian ministry;
help
Florida United Methodists remain abreast of the latest developments in
the ministry, mission and leadership of the United Methodist Church in
Florida and around the world;
provide
resources and information regarding available resources that assist
local churches in fulfilling their mission to make disciples of Jesus
Christ; and
develop
strategic marketing and public relations strategies that create and
reinforce conference identity and promote ministries and programs.
Current initiatives of the communications
ministry include:
Coordination of the Florida United Methodist Communications Ministry
Team;
Coordination of conference Intranet and Internet communication;
Oversight of the Florida Conference Web site;
Production and development of the biweekly “Florida United
Methodist Review;”
Providing communication and technology-related resources to local
churches;
Disaster relief communication;
Crisis
communication;
Video
production; and
Media
relations.
Candidates must have at least 10 years of
experience in a communications-related field; bachelor of arts degree
in communications or related specialization, such as journalism,
public relations or advertising; proven application of effective
corporate communication techniques and practices; strong project
management, organizational and planning skills; more than five years
of management experience; and the ability to work with other Florida
Conference leaders in fulfilling the mission of the Florida
Conference. Interested individuals must be an active member of a
Christian faith community, United Methodist preferred, and with a
passion for the mission of the church.
Salary is negotiable.
Tita Parham resigned from the position effective
last August to pursue a master’s degree at University of Central
Florida. She continues as a communications staff member and editor of
the Florida United Methodist Review. Parham became the director in
January 1997.

Lay board seeks nominees
The Board of Lay Ministry is looking for people
to serve on its board for the years 2002-2004.
The following positions will be filled by
election at the 2002 lay orientation session at the Dare to Share
Jesus 2002 Florida Annual Conference Event in Lakeland: conference lay
leader, secretary, treasurer, older adult representative, woman
representing a conference ministry team, man representing a conference
ministry team, man representing the annual conference, and youth
representing the annual conference.
The people representing the conference ministry
teams must be lay persons serving on any of the conference’s
committees or work areas.
The Board of Lay Ministry will choose the
nominees to be submitted for election at the lay orientation from
among those who submit their names.
Those interested in serving is invited to submit
their name and a brief resume by Jan. 17 to one of the following
