The Rev. Edward Dougherty
The Rev. Edward Dougherty, a retired pastor, died Aug. 5. Dougherty
served 10 years as assistant pastor of Lakewood United Methodist
Church in St. Petersburg.
Dr. Lloyd Walker
Dr. Lloyd Walker died Sept. 24. Walker was serving as supply pastor
at Lakeland’s Sun Ray United Methodist Church.
The Rev. Samuel Montgomery
The Rev. Samuel Montgomery, a retired elder in the Florida
Conference, died Sept. 24. Montgomery served the Methodist Church for
35 years prior to his retirement in 1994. Ordained in the South New
Jersey Conference, he transferred to the Florida Conference in 1976
and served churches in Oldsmar and Tampa.
The Rev. Edward Norman
The Rev. Edward Norman, a retired elder in the Florida Conference,
died Oct. 1. Norman served the Methodist Church for 38 years prior to
his retirement in 1988. He served churches in Tarpon Springs,
Titusville, Bradenton, Tallahassee and St. Petersburg.
The Rev. Dr. Walter Blake Rutland
The Rev. Walter Blake Rutland, 76, a retired member of the Florida
Conference, died Oct. 4. Rutland served the Methodist Church for 42
years prior to his retirement in 1991. He served churches in
Clearwater, St. Petersburg, Lakeland, Ocala, Sarasota, Tampa and
Gainesville. He also served as superintendent of the DeLand District.
The Rev. Marvin William Paul Lanier
The Rev. W. Paul Lanier, 76, a retired member of the Florida
Conference, died Oct. 15. Lanier served the Methodist Church for 37
years prior to his retirement in 1986. Ordained in the North Arkansas
Conference, he moved to the Florida Conference in 1969. He served
churches in Sarasota, Crystal River, Hollywood, Bonita Springs,
Lakeland and Riverdale.
