Conference offers Christian Believer training

The Florida Conference is sponsoring a “Christian Believer” training event April 18-20 in Orlando.

“Christian Believer” addresses the uncertainty about the substance of the Christian faith and the connection between believing and living. It is a 30-week, DISCIPLE-inspired, small-group study of the classical doctrines of the Christian faith. It is open to anyone who would like a better understanding of the teachings that have sustained the Christian faith for centuries.

Dr. J. Ellsworth Kalas, Professor of Preaching at Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Ky., and author of numerous Christian books, is the writer of the “Christian Believer” study manual and will make a presentation at this training event.

The cost for newly enrolled churches is $750 and includes training for the leader, lodging for two nights, six scheduled meals, leader’s materials and materials for a group of up to 12 students. Training for additional persons is $300 and includes lodging for two nights, six scheduled meals and leader’s materials.

Some scholarships are available for United Methodist churches through the conference’s Discipleship Ministry office. Contact the Rev. Carol Sue Hutchinson at 863-688-5563, extension 140, or CHutchinson@flumc.org.

The nine weeks of the conference’s annual summer camp program begin June 3. The regular camps for children, middle school youth and high school students are at the Warren W. Willis Camp and Life Enrichment Center in Leesburg. The ministry also includes Creative Spirit Camp, Middle School and High School Group weeks, Out-of-State Hiking Missions and Camp Pioneer.
