Secretaries hold institute in Atlanta

The Professional Association of United Methodist Secretaries (PAUMCS) is holding its Institute July 21-26 at the Candler School of Theology, Emory University in Atlanta. The event is open to secretaries and administrative assistants who work for United Methodist churches, districts, annual conferences or general agencies.

The Institute provides advanced professional training and enrichment for office personnel. Participants who complete the program and meet additional requirements are eligible to apply for certification as a Professional United Methodist Secretary.

This year’s topics include ethics and confidentiality, church finances, understanding the new tax laws, conflict resolution, diversity, church polity, and managing people and programs.

Companions series training offers insight

Upper Room Ministries will offer a one-day training on “The Companions in Christ Series” June 8, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, Brandon. “The Companions in Christ Series” is a 28-week small-group experience that invites participants into a deepening experience of God.

Participants will learn the skills needed to lead formational groups and receive an introduction to the Companions series and the second release, “Companions in Christ: The Way of Forgiveness.” They will also receive a copy of the Companion leader’s guide and journal.

Volunteers rally in July

The Southeastern Jurisdiction’s United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM) is holding its 23rd annual rally July 4-7 at Lake Junaluska, N.C. The theme of the event is “One great fellowship of love, throughout the whole wide earth.”

The rally will give those with a heart for mission work an opportunity to network, learn and share with national and international mission leaders and volunteers.

The Rev. Dr. Paul Wesley Chilcote, a professor at Asbury Theological Seminary’s Orlando Campus, will lead the “WorldWalk,” an interactive experience that takes participants on a simulated journey to 12 different mission settings.

The Junaluska Singers will present their annual July 4 concert with fireworks following.
