Youth workers have new site

LAKELAND — Youth workers throughout the Florida Conference have a new resource for spiritual and resource support in their ministries. The new United Methodist Youth Workers site, http://www.umyouthworkers.org,  was designed to facilitate youth ministries by providing daily devotionals, resource information and a communication network for church staff and volunteers working with youth. It also includes a calendar of events related to youth ministry and a job listing.

The site was developed under the leadership of the Florida Conference Council on Ministries’ Youth Ministry office.

VOAD holds first expo in Brevard

MELBOURNE — More than 200 people attended the first Brevard County Community Disaster Showcase June 8, according to the Rev. David Harris, pastor of Mims United Methodist Church and president of Brevard VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster). The event was an opportunity for people to learn about potential disasters and the various community groups that respond.

“We had an incredible array of speakers, quality displays, a fabulous facility, but not enough people,” Harris said. “A major rainstorm did not help.”

The featured speakers included officers from state and federal disaster relief agencies, including the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
