Young people invited to explore calling
“Exploration 2002,” Nov. 15-17 in Chicago,
is a weekend event designed to help young people between 16 and 24
years old discern God’s call.
The event is sponsored by the General Board of
Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM) and will present information on
the steps to ordained ministry and the variety of ways participants
can live out their call. GBHEM provides rooms and meals. Participants
are responsible for their own travel.

Council of churches holds annual
assembly
The Florida Council of Churches is holding its
Annual Assembly Oct. 4-5 at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg. The
assembly is open to all members of participating denominations.
Florida Conference Bishop Timothy W. Whitaker
will preside at the opening worship service.
This year’s program is “Overcoming Violence.”
Workshops will cover topics including domestic violence, violence in
the media, engaging congregations in non-violence and non-violent
foreign policy.
Registration is $15 per person. Accommodations
are available in the college’s Continuing Education Center. For more

The
Fall Appalachian Trail Hike offers adults from the Florida Conference
an opportunity to enjoy autumn’s changing leaves in a physically and
spiritually challenging environment. The Hike is Oct. 14-20. Contact

The
United Methodist Church is supporting relief efforts in response to
flooding in Europe. The denomination is working through the ecumenical
Action by Churches Together. Donations can be made by designating
checks “Europe Emergency, Advance #368210-5.” Checks should be
made out to Florida Conference Treasurer.
Duke
Divinity School’s Convocation and Pastors’ School is Oct. 14-16 at
the Duke campus in Durham, N.C. This year’s theme is “Remembering
Who We Are: Renewing the Spiritual Life.” Florida Conference Bishop
Timothy W. Whitaker will preach twice. Roberta Bondi, professor of

United
Methodists who weave stoles or make paraments, communion service
items, banners or other objects of worship are invited to discuss
forming a national network of liturgical artisans. The Rev. Jim Brand,
