association offers scholarships, discounts
The United Methodist Association of Preschools (UMAP)
is holding its annual conference Nov. 1-3 in Leesburg. To encourage
participation, UMAP is offering a limited number of need-based
scholarships and has a 50 percent discount for the director and one
teacher who have never attended a UMAP conference.
This year’s theme is “Serving the Shepherd,
Loving His Lambs.” UMAP, a ministry of the Florida Conference,
promotes quality and developmentally-appropriate education for young
children in a Christian setting.

Web guild teaches with on-line
broadcast
The United Methodist Web Ministry Guild is
offering local church Web developers the chance to interact with some
of the denomination’s top Web ministers through an Internet-based
broadcast Oct. 31, 9 - 11:30 a.m. The Webcast is titled “We Built
Our Church Web Site: Now What?”
The first two panel discussions will focus on
the Web as ministry. They will feature Mark Stephenson, founder of
Ginghamsburg CyberMinistry; the Rev. Faith Green, associate pastor of
communications at Hope United Methodist Church in Southfield, Mich.,
and former network journalist; and Amy Texley, director of information
for United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, Kan.
The final panel discussion will explain how
churches can make use of streaming audio and video on their Web sites.

Epworth is site for Holy Spirit
conference
The 24th Annual South Georgia/North Florida Holy
Spirit Conference is Nov. 8 at Epworth By the Sea on St. Simons
Island, Ga. The family-oriented, ecumenical weekend will focus on “Ministering
to a Wounded World.”
The Rev. Joyce Payne, a United Methodist elder
and general evangelist, is among the event’s speakers. Her emphasis
is how to know and be filled by the Holy Spirit.

Shalom Summit heads to the nation’s
capitol
Shalom Summit VI, a worldwide gathering of
churches and ministries involved in the Communities of Shalom
ministry, is Dec. 12-15 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Washington, D.C.
Plenary and workshops will cover topics
including building communities, faith-based challenges, Safe
Sanctuaries, developing new Shalom sites, partners in ministry,
developing Shalom for Hispanic communities, youth and fostering global
partnerships.
The cost is $525 before Nov. 15 and $550
thereafter. The cost includes lodging, meals and all summit activities

Short Bites
A new book titled “Way to Live: Christian Practices for Teens”
challenges teen-agers to explore 18 Christian practices, including
friendship and giving away possessions. The book is supported by a Web

and study guide. The book was written by teams of teens and adults
from different denominations and parts of the United States. The book
