Pensions board holds public forum

The United Methodist Board of Pension and Health Benefits will hold a public forum Nov. 15, 11:30 a.m. to noon, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Tampa. The forum will enable the board of directors to hear concerns of constituents from across the church. The session provides individuals the opportunity to speak with directors during the course of their regularly scheduled board meeting. Russia Initiative celebrates 10th anniversary

The Russia Initiative, a ministry of the General Board of Global Ministries, celebrates its 10th anniversary at the Russia Initiative Consultation X Nov. 7-9 at the Sheraton Dallas Brookhollow Hotel in Dallas, Texas. All initiative participants and local church, district and conference leadership interested in the United Methodist Church’s ministry in Russia are invited.

Bishop Ruediger R. Minor of the Russian United Methodist Church will share news of the expansion of the church in Russia and several former Soviet republics. Participants will also discuss the impact of terrorism and the ongoing economic crisis on the Russian church. Workshops will present different ways congregations can support the Russia Initiative.

Campus ministers invited to D.C. seminar

Campus ministers are invited to learn how the United Methodist General Board of Higher Education and Ministry and General Board of Church and Society can enhance their ministry with college students. The three-day event is Nov. 20-22 in Washington, D.C.

The two boards will lead simulation games and exercises designed to help youth and young adults connect social issues, introduce participants to the communities in the nation’s capitol and public policy with their faith, and offer tips for planning a trip to Washington, D.C.

New books teach teachers what they need to know

A new series of books released by the Christian education staff of the General Board of Discipleship is designed to help teachers of all age levels. The 10-book series is titled “What Every Teacher Needs to Know.”

The books cover topics including the Bible, The United Methodist Church, the classroom environment, theology, faith language, living the faith and others.

Florahome United Methodist Church in the DeLand District invites all Florida Conference churches to an all-day outdoor Jesus Rally Oct. 26, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The rally includes food, Southern Gospel music and Christian drama by the Wesley Players.
