Reuschling retires from Florida Southern

LAKELAND — Thomas L. Reuschling is stepping down as president of Florida Southern College at the end of the 2003-2004 academic year. He will have served 10 years in the college’s highest position.

His accomplishments include completing a $60 million campaign that enabled numerous capital improvements, raising enrollment from 1,400 to 1,800, enhancing diversity, preserving the strong values component of a Florida Southern education, and expanding opportunities for learning experiences abroad.

Reuschling will use 2004-2005 for relaxation and intellectual renewal. He’ll return to Florida Southern in 2005 to either teach and/or work with special projects.

College trustees will conduct a national search for† his successor.

Children’s Home, volunteers receive national recognition

ENTERPRISE— The Florida United Methodist Children’s Home has been recognized by the United Methodist Association (UMA) as “Organization of the Year.”

Located in Enterprise, the Children’s Home assists children, youth and families in need.

The award is given each year to an agency that has demonstrated a high level of quality care and met superior standards for its programs and ministries.

UMA also inducted Howard and Biddy Lang, long time supporters of the Children’s Home, into its Philanthropy Hall of Fame.

Each year UMA recognizes recipients whose time, talents and resources have made them an example to be lifted up for recognition. Howard Lang died last January, but knew of the honor before his death.

The Langs, members of First United Methodist Church, Ft. Myers, were also recognized for a lifetime of philanthropic activity to the Children’s Home and many other worthy causes, ministries and charities.

UMA is a national association of United Methodist related ministries and individual professionals concerned about the quality of health care in a faith-based setting. Headquartered in Dayton, Ohio, UMA serves nearly 400 health and human service organizations and professionals.
