Conference shifts health insurance responsibilities

LAKELAND — Responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Florida Conference’s health insurance program is shifting from the Division of Ministry to the conference’s office of Financial Services, according to the Rev. David Dodge, executive director of the Division of Ministry.

Boyd Acklin, assistant treasurer for administration and human resources, is taking on the responsibility of managing the health insurance program. Jenny Dilorenzo and Janice Updegraff, who have been working with the program as part of their job responsibilities with the Division of Ministry and office of financial services, respectively, will continue in those responsibilities, but both will report to Acklin.

Dodge said the Division of Ministry will still be involved in setting health insurance policy in its work with the conference’s Board of Pension and Health Benefits.

The move is in response to the increasing work related to managing the health insurance system, according to Dodge. “Health insurance has gone crazy, especially in the last seven years,” he said. “The work has exponentially increased.”

Dodge said he will now be able to focus more of his attention on working with the Board of Ordained Ministry, which has also seen an increase in its work caused by changes in the ordained ministry made by the 1996 General Conference.

For more information on the conference’s health insurance plan contact Acklin at 1-800-282-8011, extension 173, or Backlin@flumc.org.
