From newspaper
to news service in January 2004.
Florida United Methodist
Communications is making a dramatic shift in the way it brings Florida
Conference news to you.
Instead of publishing the
"Florida United Methodist Review" biweekly newspaper, the conference
communications office will begin offering e-Review Florida United Methodist News
Service January 2004.
It’s an e-mail and Internet-based
news service that will provide subscribers with the same high-quality news they
received through the "Review," but in a different format. Conference
communications staff is committed to providing stories that are newsworthy and
informative, using the same standards applied to the printed "Review."
Here’s
how it will work.
o
Subscribers to e-Review Florida United Methodist News Service will receive
feature news articles on conference and local church ministries via e-mail
throughout the week, as well as Opportunities, columns from regularly scheduled
writers and the various other items periodically included in the "Review," such
as Personalia, In Memoriams, Notices and In Brief news items.
o
Each article will include links to United Methodist Communications' United
Methodist News Service and the United Methodist Reporter in Dallas, giving
subscribers access to national and international United Methodist news.
o
Each article will be posted on the Florida Conference Web site, along with any
photos.
o
Every two weeks subscribers will receive a digest that includes the headline and
a brief synopsis of each article distributed during the two weeks prior, with
links to the full stories on the conference Web site. The digest will also be
provided in a PDF format for easy copying and distributing to church members in
bulletins or newsletters.
o
Each article will include a ministry title at the bottom of the story indicating
the type of ministry to which the story relates, such as church transformation,
youth, spiritual formation, etc.
o
Each church will receive a binder, along with inserts coded with a different
ministry area, in which to include the stories provided through the news service
so they are available to church members who do not have access to the Internet.
Benefits
of a news service.
o
News stories can be sent more easily and in a timelier manner to more people,
increasing the number of people who receive Florida Conference news.
o
The news can be provided at a fraction of what it costs to print and mail a
newspaper.
o
E-mailed stories can more easily be forwarded to friends, relatives and
colleagues, further broadening the readership of Florida Conference news.
o
E-mailed stories can more easily be used by local church newsletter and
publication editors in church publications, also broadening access to the many
successful ministries and initiatives taking place throughout the conference.
o
More in-depth news can be shared without the space constraints of a printed
paper.
