Welcoming
Congregations Goal
The Florida Conference Igniting
Ministry Design team has developed a resource guide to help Florida's
churches continue their active participation in the campaign. The team and
Bishop Timothy W. Whitaker have also set a conference-wide Igniting Ministry
goal of having every congregation in the Florida Conference become a
Welcoming Congregation. A church receives that designation when it meets a
set of criteria listed on the Welcoming Congregations checklist in the
Igniting Ministry Planning Kit produced by United Methodist Communications
in Nashville.
The team chose to focus on encouraging churches to become Welcoming
Congregations because hospitality and being welcoming are two of the most
critical parts of the Igniting Ministry campaign. And every church can
participate by actively enhancing their welcoming and hospitality efforts.
Below are several items to help your church learn more about becoming a Welcoming Congregation. Please share
these resources, saved as PDF files,* with the members of your congregation
who are coordinating your church's Igniting Ministry efforts. These include:
- A message from Bishop Timothy Whitaker,
- The 2002 Igniting Ministry Resource Guide developed by the
Florida Conference Igniting Ministry Design Team, and
- The Welcoming
Congregations checklist.
