HOLLYWOOD — Jonathan Upleger, son of the Rev. Gary Upleger, stands ready to hurl the season’s first snowball during Hollywood Hills United Methodist Church’s 8th Annual SnowFest Dec. 5. A local ice company provided 30 tons of snow for the event, which also included games, food and entertainment. Nearly 5,000 people attended, enjoying fun the way “they do it up north.” One hundred families referred by social service agencies also attended and received free meals and photos with Santa. The nearly $6,000 profit from the event will help fund the church’s children and youth ministries. The event “brings warmth and love to the entire community at Christmas time,” said SnowFest coordinator Elizabeth Weinstock.
