Bishop calls churches to excellence

Lay and clergy church leaders of all ages are invited to learn how to create a vital church in the African-American tradition May 13-15 at the Bishop’s Call to Excellence at Florida Southern College (FSC) in Lakeland. This program is the second phase of the Florida Atlanta Connection Experience (FACE) and will feature “how to” training on leading with a vision, servant evangelism, invitations to Christian discipleship and transitioning a church.

Featured speakers include Drs. McAllister Hollins, Otis Pickett, Sherry Austin, Walter L. Kimbrough and Rodney Smothers from Atlanta and Drs. Elston Perry and Charles Courtoy and the Rev. Carol Hoffman-Guzman from the Florida Conference.

Friday night and Saturday morning will focus on youth, and there will be a dance and pizza party for ninth-graders and up.

The cost is $125 for adults staying at FSC, $75 for commuters and $25 for youth. The registration deadline is May 1. For more information, contact Barbara Holden in the conference’s office of New Church Development and Church Redevelopment at 1-800-282-8011, extension 146, or BHolden@flumc.org.
