Speakers share experiences of not playing church
Whether church has become a spectator sport or a game of career advancement, keynote speakers at the "No More Playing Church" training experience of the Dare to Share Jesus 2000 Annual Conference Event said it is possible and necessary to stop "playing church."
The Rev. Jessica Moffatt, senior pastor of First United Methodist Church in Bixby, Okla., and the Rev. Dick Wills, pastor of Christ Church United Methodist in Ft. Lauderdale, shared their stories of revitalizing their congregations and motivating them to reach into their communities.

Praise band tours state
The sounds of Cuban rhythms and praise filled United Methodist Churches throughout the Florida Conference during May and June when 11 members of the Monte de Sión (Mount Zion) Praise Band from Havana Cuba played more than 15 dates on a month-long tour of south and central Florida.

Todd Shanks, a liturgical dancer from Grace United Methodist
Church in Merritt Island, interpreted “This is Your Time” by Michael W.
Smith at the May 31 Memorial Service. Worship celebrations throughout the
event featured music and dance from as far away as Zimbabwe, Africa, with
special music provided live by the Africa University Choir.
