Bishop sets date for fall session

By Michael Wacht

Bishop Cornelius L. Henderson announced that the special fall session of the Dare to Share Jesus 2000 Florida Annual Conference Event is Oct. 5 at Morrison United Methodist Church in Leesburg.

The session, which was approved by delegates to the May 30-June 1 Annual Conference Event in Lakeland, will address conference financial matters, including the 2001 budget. Each church’s designated lay and clergy delegates to the Lakeland event are asked to attend.

The Rev. Bob Standifer, president of the Conference Council on Finance and Administration (CFA), said CFA hopes to present its candidate for conference treasurer, in addition to next year’s budget. Dr. Randy Casey-Rutland is serving as interim treasurer following the resignation of the Rev. Tom Marston March 7.

At the June meeting of district superintendents in Tallahassee, Henderson said he decided to hold the meeting in Leesburg to coincide with the School of Ministry Oct. 2-5 at the Life Enrichment Center, since many clergy will already be in Leesburg for that event.

The 1,000-seat Morrison sanctuary is the largest in the area and best able to handle the expected attendance.

A similar session called by Bishop H. Hasbrouck Hughes Jr. in 1994 was well-attended by both clergy and lay delegates, according to Henderson, who said he expects the same will happen this year.
