Orlando
church offers well-being conference
Dr. Howard Clinebell, well-known innovator in the field of pastoral
therapy, will be the featured speaker at St. Luke’s United Methodist
Church’s Health and Wholeness weekend Aug. 26-27 in Orlando.
Clinebell is an ordained United Methodist pastor; a licensed
marriage, family and child counselor; a teacher; and the author or
co-author of 17 books. He is the founder and first clinical director
of the Pomona Valley Pastoral Counseling Center, now known as The
Clinebell Institute in Claremont, Calif.
The theme for Saturday’s workshop is "Anchoring Your
Well-Being, Christian Wholeness in a Fractured World."
Participants will learn to incorporate well-being into the seven
dimensions of their lives: spiritual, mental, physical, relational,
work/play, crisis/loss and environmental.
Clinebell will expand his well-being message during the Sunday
morning worship services and discuss "Saving a Healthy Earth for
All God’s Children — Including Yours" at the evening service.
The cost for the Saturday event is $25 per person, $40 for two

Jurisdiction offers deaf congress
Laity and clergy interested in ministering to the deaf community
are invited to attend the Southeastern Jurisdiction’s annual
Congress of the Deaf at the Comfort Inn Conference Center in Atlanta
Sept. 8-10.
The focus will be on the importance of evangelism and mission
opportunities among the 856,920 people in the Southeast who are
completely deaf.
Registration is $60 and does not include lodging and meals. For

Mission volunteers meet
United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM) will meet for its
annual convocation and rally Sept. 15-17 at the Life Enrichment Center
in Leesburg.
The Rev. Nick Elliott, director of the Southeastern Jurisdiction
Volunteers in Mission and a member of the South Carolina Conference,
is the keynote speaker. Workshops on disaster response and cultural
sensitivity will be offered, as well as training for team leaders.
The cost is $75 and includes meals and lodging. For more
