All ages focus on urban issues at school
Health care, education and communications technology were among the issues discussed by attendees at this year's School of Christian Mission July 24-28 at Florida Southern College in Lakeland. More than 600 adults and youth attended classes dealing with urban issues, Paul's letters to the Corinthians and Africa's children at the school's two sessions.

Children's Home bounces back from financial difficulties 
Nearly a year after a financial crisis at the Florida United Methodist Children's Home forced the closing of one cottage and cutbacks in staff, the Rev. Alex Carmichel IV, president of the home, says church giving has helped stabilize the home's finances and allowed its leadership to start focusing on long-term planning.   Full Story   
      

Florida program promotes spiritual formation  
The Rev. Patricia D. Brown, director of the Florida Conference's Office of Spiritual Formation, worked with the Institute of Christian Studies, Episcopal Diocese of Central Florida, to develop an ecumenical training program designed to enhance personal spiritual enrichment or to work toward leadership in spiritual direction.
"It's been a longtime dream of mine to put in place a process whereby clergy and laity can discern the spiritual direction of God's will for their life," Brown said.

16-year-old hostage witnesses to gunman during ordeal
Sixteen-year-old Althea Mills did something many people have a hard time doing under the best of circumstances. She readily shared her faith and what it means to be forgiven with a man who held her and her family hostage at gunpoint for 51 hours in her Orlando home. Full Story 
 
Alpha course makes impact on church
Drug users, non-Christians and even the children of United Methodist pastors are discovering and deepening their faith in Jesus Christ through the 15-session Alpha Course, according to Florida Conference clergy.
