Fund helps camping ministry

Members of the Florida Conference have the opportunity to make an impact on the success of the conference camping ministry through the newly created Camping Ministry Endowment Fund.

Approved at the New Beginnings 1997 Florida Annual Conference Event, the fund will help build a sound financial base that will ensure the conference camping ministry continues in the future.

Through the fund, United Methodist members and friends may give charitable gifts that will become a permanent financial resource for the camping ministry.

For more information on the Camping Ministry Endowment Fund or to make a gift, contact the Florida Conference Events Ministry office or the Florida United Methodist Foundation at 1-800-282-8011 or 941-688-5563.

Youth retreat focuses on the cross

Great music, great discussions, free T-shirts and the chance to learn what it means to follow Christ are all part of the CrossTrainers ’98 retreat Nov. 20-22 at the Warren W. Willis United Methodist Camp and Life Enrichment Center in Leesburg.

Through worship, music, prayer, fellowship time and adult-led group discussions, the retreat is designed to help mid- and senior-high youth learn how to be more Christ-like in every aspect of their lives.

This year’s musical program includes the contemporary Christian band, Zilch, featuring former members of DC Talk, and the folk-rock sound of the Normals. And every youth will receive a free event T-shirt. Contact the Florida Conference Youth Ministry office with T-shirt sizes by Nov. 6.

The cost for the weekend retreat is $80 per person. The registration deadline is Nov. 13. For more information contact the Florida Conference Youth Ministry office at 1-800-282-8011, extension 139, or e-mail eharris@flumc.org.
