Conference establishes fund for Bishop’s memorial

The Florida Conference treasurer's office established a fund to collect gifts in memory of the late Bishop Cornelius L. Henderson. The money will benefit the Tsalala Orphanage in Tsalala, Mozambique, Africa.
The Florida Conference is accepting money to build a school on the orphanage compound as part of its commitment to the Council of Bishops' Initiative on Children and Poverty and Hope for the Children of Africa campaigns. The conference's campaign task force decided last December to name it the Bishop Cornelius L. and Dorothye Henderson School.
The primary purpose of the memorial fund is to raise the $250,000 necessary to build the school. "Additional gifts will be used to fund other projects that Bishop Henderson was committed to and excited about," said Randy Casey-Rutland, the conference's treasurer.
Individuals may make a memorial gift through their local church or by sending a check to the Florida Conference. Checks should be made payable to the Florida Conference Treasurer with a note on the memo line or an enclosed letter stating the gift is in memory of Bishop Henderson.
Churches that collect donations or give from their general funds can use the standard apportionment giving form to submit the money to the Florida Conference Treasurer. On the form, churches should indicate in the "other" category that the money is for fund #803 in memory of Bishop Henderson.
The treasurer's office will collect and keep track of memorial funds and work with the episcopal office and task force to send thank-you letters and gift receipts.
