Health and
Wholeness holds first event
The Florida Conference Health and Wholeness Ministry Team held its first-ever
conference-wide event Jan. 27 at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Orlando. More than
85 people attended the "Tending His Sheep: Increasing Ministry Outreach Through
Health and Spirituality" to share, learn and network for the purpose of promoting
health- and wholeness-related ministries.
Participants learned about a variety of health-related ministries
from pastors and professionals serving in those ministries. Fourteen workshops covered a
variety of topics, including ministry to the deaf and homebound, elder care and mental
health support, and spirituality and grieving.

Stained glass project builds
excitement, commitment
Last
June, eight church members of Matacumbe United Methodist Church on Islamorada started
making stained glass panels to go around the two doors on either side of the sanctuary.
Today, more than 20 people are involved, including members of other local churches and the
community.
The Rev. Jim Altman, pastor of the church, said the windows add
"an object of meditation" to the sanctuary. The project has also helped increase
people's interest in the church. "The benefit of people from the congregation doing
this is it shares the ownership of the place, there's more of the self invested in the
church," he said. "The more invested you are in the church, the more the church
and its mission become important to you." Full

New hire helps churches plan
giving
Tom Wilkinson says his goal is to help the 337,000
United Methodists in the Florida Conference have a lasting impact on their local church
and the conference through giving. Wilkinson is the Florida United Methodist Foundation's
new vice president of planned giving.
Wilkinson said his purpose with the Foundation is to help local
churches. "I'm not here to add to the assets of the Foundation, but to help people
have an impact on the local church they've been a member of and loved for so many
years," he said. Full
