Church holds leadership broadcast

A leadership seminar featuring author and motivational speaker Dr. John C. Maxwell will be simulcast at First United Methodist Church of Umatilla March 24, 8 a.m.-12 noon. The national program, titled "Maximum Impact," will be broadcast live via satellite to 1,200 churches throughout North America.

Maxwell will focus on the principles outlined in his book "Developing the Leader Within You."

Bishop invites confirmands to Orlando

United Methodists preparing for confirmation are invited to attend the Bishop's Confirmation Convocation March 31, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Orlando. The event's theme is "Prayers, Presence, Gifts, Services."

Participants can choose from among 14 classes featuring the prayer labyrinth, drama, dance, signing, leadership, choir, banner making, prayer and spiritual gifts. Community mission projects are also scheduled. Some classes will design and participate in the afternoon worship service.

Each participant is asked to bring at least one completed School Kit, a collection of specific school supplies sent to children around the world by the United Methodist Committee on Relief.

Secretaries to be "Linked by Love" in Montgomery

The "Linked by Love" 19th Annual Conference of the Professional Association of United Methodist Secretaries (PAUMCS) is April 19-22 in Montgomery, Ala.

Featured speakers are Cal Turner Jr., chairman, president and chief executive officer of Dollar General Corporation; the Rev. Dr. John Ed Mathison, senior pastor of Montgomery's Frazer Memorial United Methodist Church; Peter Land, a human resource development consultant; and Shirley Good, a church office efficiency consultant.

Willis Camp in Leesburg is an opportunity for students in the fourth and fifth grade to begin building a relationship of trust with a parent or adult sponsor as they deal with issues of faith, sexuality and self esteem. The event is designed to teach church leaders how to overcome today’s busy and hurried culture. Dr. Reginald Johnson, professor of spiritual formation at Asbury Theological Seminary; Dr. Danny Morris, longtime leader of Upper Room Prayer Ministries, Walk to Emmaus and the Academy for Spiritual Formation; and Chris Hughes, the Southeastern Jurisdiction's director of Discipleship Ministries, will be among the leaders. bul2.gif (821 bytes) Lay and clergy leaders of adult ministries are invited to attend the National Adult Ministries Event 2001 April 24-17 at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel in San Antonio, Texas. Titled “Rivers of Faith: Transforming Adult Ministries in the 21st Century,” the event is sponsored by the General Board of Discipleship. Registration is $275 and does not include lodging or travel.
