William Roundtree

The Rev. William Roundtree, a retired Florida Conference deacon, died Feb. 1.

Roundtree retired in 1985 after serving the United Methodist Church for 14 years. He became an associate member in 1971 and served as pastor of churches in Newberry-Springhill, Miami and Hernando.

He also served on active duty in the U.S. Coast Guard and Navy for 22 years.

Roger Fisher Shively

The Rev. Roger Fisher Shively died Feb. 14. He retired in 1981 after serving the United Methodist Church for 12 years.

A licensed Church of the Brethren pastor, Shively became an associate member of the Florida Conference in 1975.

He served churches in Homosassa Springs and Tampa.

W. Goddard Sherman

The Rev. Dr. W. Goddard Sherman, a retired Florida Conference elder, died Feb. 26. Sherman retired in 1984 after serving the United Methodist Church for 31 years.

Ordained in the United Presbyterian Church in 1952, he was admitted to the Florida Conference on trial membership in 1953 and in full connection in 1954.

Sherman served churches in Interlachen, Riviera Beach, Stuart, Ft. Lauderdale, Melrose Park, Jacksonville Beach, Winter Haven, Tampa, Boynton Beach, St. Petersburg and Ft. Myers.

Fred Foster

The Rev. Fred Foster, a Florida Conference elder, died March 9.

Ordained deacon in 1964, he served churches in Avon Park, Callahan, Cross City, DeBary, Enterprise, Hillsborough, Indiantown, Islamorada, Newberry, Okeechobee, Oxford, St. Petersburg, Starke and Webster.

He retired in 1979 after serving the United Methodist Church for 24 years.

Vernice J. Ragsdale

The Rev. Vernice J. Ragsdale, a Florida Conference elder, died March 23.

Ordained a deacon in 1955, Ragsdale served churches in Avon Park, Callahan, Cross City, DeBary, Webster, Okeechobee, Matecumbe, Starke and St. Petersburg. He retired in 1979.

Christian William August Bredemeier

The Rev. Christian William August Bredemeier, an elder in the Florida Conference, died March 26.

Licensed to preach in the Florida Conference of the United Brethren Church in 1934 and ordained an elder in 1935, he served churches in Brandon and Tampa. He was also superintendent of the Florida Conference of the Evangelical United Brethren Church from 1951 to 1957.

Bredemeier founded Crystal Beach Community Church in 1957 and was chaplain at Helen Ellis Memorial Hospital in Tarpon Springs for 20 years. He retired in 1975 after serving the church for 41 years.

Wendell Startup

The Rev. Wendell Startup, a Florida Conference elder, died May 12 after serving the United Methodist Church for 12 years.

Ordained in 1972, he served the United Seminole Mission, as well as churches in Fort Ogden-Nocatee, West Hollywood, Lake Helen-Forest Hills, Lake Helen, Jacksonville, Lee and Micanopy.
