Florida Southern College names new director of church relations

Mike Crawford has been named new director of church relations at United Methodist-affiliated Florida Southern College (FSC) in Lakeland.

Crawford will act as liaison between the college and the United Methodist Church, as well as visit prospective students and speak at area churches to improve the college’s long-standing relationship with the church.

Crawford spent 18 years working in the United Methodist Church in youth and young adult ministries. He has served in large and small churches throughout the conference and led numerous workshops and seminars about youth/young adult issues.

“With his wealth of experience and connections in the Florida Conference, Mike will be a wonderful asset to Florida Southern,” said the Rev. Timothy S. Wright, FSC chaplain, in a recent release from FSC. “I am excited not only about what he will bring to the college, but also about the role he will play in the life of the church.”

College names scholarship after Florida Conference bishop, others

Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss., has established a scholarship for entering freshman students that honors the school’s eight alumni bishops, including Florida Conference Bishop Timothy W. Whitaker.

Organizers have set a $500,000 goal for the fund. The first scholarship will be awarded in fall 2005.
