Florida Conference responds to Mitch survivors |
Life [in Honduras] is coming to normal,
little by little, but the need is great, said Bishop Armando Rodriguez, the retired
Cuban bishop who is serving the Methodist Church in Honduras. He says the Florida
Conference has helped make that possible through the medicine, supplies, money and people
it has sent to the country after last Octobers Hurricane Mitch killed thousands and
left millions homeless
Dr. Joe Dorn, a family physician at Citrus Memorial Hospital and
member of First United Methodist Church, Inverness, was one of the first Floridians to
respond.

Florida Conference committed to reaching singles
Jesus Christ was a single adult, yet single adults often have
difficulty finding a place of connection and acceptance at the local church, says
the Rev. Nancy Wood, the Florida Conferences consultant on singles ministries. That
is why the Florida Conference has made a commitment to reach the 44 percent of the
population that is single, divorced or widowed.
Churches avidly support two-parent families, but
dont know what to do with the others [singles], Wood said. They just

protests training school
A total of 2,319 people walked onto the grounds of Fort
Benning in Columbus, GA, Nov. 22 carrying crosses and coffins, praying, singing and
repeating the names of victims of violence and persecution in Latin America in protest of
the training taking place at the army bases School of the Americas (SOA). The Rev.
Vicki Walker, a deacon in the Florida Conference serving Tampa United Methodist Centers,
