Seminar addresses
21st century worship
Clergy and lay worship leaders have the opportunity to discuss
issues related to the future of worship at the 1999 Seminar for Pastors and Key Leaders
Feb. 22-26 at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, GA.
Dr. Kennon Callahan, internationally recognized consultant, author, speaker and founder of
the National Institute for Church Planning and Consultation (NICPC), will lead
Preaching and Worship for the 21st Century. Topics addressed include
motivating congregations; structure, form and content in preaching; developing worship
music; and four major forms of worship.
Seminar tuition is $285 until Dec. 1, and $345 after that date. For more information,
contact Nancy Dunn at the NICPC Southeastern Regional Center at 770-645-9906.
Ministry collects toys for prisoners children
This Christmas, children of prisoners will find themselves
without someone to make this a joyful holiday, says Jim Russo, founder of Jim Russo Prison
Ministries (JRPM). In response, Momma Mias Love Train, a ministry of JRPM, will
collect thousands of new toys to be given by Floridas prisoners to their children on
Christmas.
Last year, more than 14,000 toys were collected and distributed. This years goal is
to deliver as many as 20,000 toys to various state institutions by Dec. 18.
New toys costing up to $7 should be gift wrapped and labeled with the age and gender of
the intended recipient, and may be taken or mailed to The Jim Russo Development Center,
2106 26th Ave., East, Bradenton, FL 34208. Cash donations of $7 per child may be sent to
JRPM, P.O. Box 2878, Sarasota, FL 34230.
For more information on the prison ministry, contact JRPM at 941-746-3717.
Summer camping ministry looks for next years
team
Despite the fact that the days are getting
shorter, temperatures are slowly moving into the 70s, and the first day of winter is less
than a month away, summer camp organizers are already looking for next years
leadership team.
The 1999 Summer Camp Ministry is June 7-Aug. 7, and leaders
are needed for one-week or full-program stints.
Serving on the leadership team, made up of rising high school seniors and college
students, is one opportunity. Those chosen will receive room and board, and college-aged
staff will receive an honorarium.
Adults are also needed to lead small groups or serve as resource persons. Both positions
involve a one-week commitment. Room and board, curriculum, and supplies are provided.
The application deadline is Jan. 15. For more information, to request an application or to
recommend a student for the leadership team, contact Emily Harris in the Florida
Conferences camping ministry office at 1-800-282-8011, extension 139, or e-mail at EHarris@flumc.org.
