Contemporary retreat looks to the future

     Tradition met the future at this year’s United Methodist Men’s (UMM) spiritual retreats with a first-ever contemporary weekend held in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the men’s retreat ministry.   
     Nearly 600 men from across the Florida Conference gathered at the Life Enrichment Center in Leesburg Oct. 30-Nov. 1 to experience the new retreat.

Lay speakers equipped for ministry

      Liturgist, prison minister, witness, speaker, teacher and leader are potential callings for lay speakers. All were explored at the second annual training event for lay speakers this past summer at the Life Enrichment Center in Leesburg.

Fund raising begins for Heritage Center
    Almost 200 years of history may soon have a permanent home as fund-raising efforts get underway for the new Florida United Methodist Heritage Center. The goal of the effort, coordinated by the Commission on Archives and History, is to raise $600,000 for the new archives building.

Ministry impacts urban youth
When Hurricane Andrew ripped through Florida City in 1992, it tore down more than physical walls, said Kim King Torres, director of the Branches Outreach Ministry.
