CBS network
will air church's national TV commercials
The
United Methodist Church will get premium air time on the CBS television network when the
denomination launches its national television commercials the first week of September.
The television spots, part of the church-wide Igniting Ministry
effort, will begin airing during the CBS "Early Show," Tuesday through Friday,
beginning Sept. 4. Full Story

Young people
discuss calling, ministry
As the United Methodist Church and the Florida Conference face a
decline in the number of ordained elders, some conference leaders and pastors believe the
decrease in the number of young people responding to the call to ordained ministry is a
key factor.
Many pastors say their own calling came from experiences in a
local church youth group or at the conference's summer youth camps. Several members of
this year's Summer Camp team say they feel called into the ministry and are struggling
with many issues. Their personal goals, church politics, itinerancy and the variety of
ministry options are affecting their decision to respond to God's calling. Full Story

Caring, sharing values help
Suntree church grow
In the last 10 years, Melbourne's Suntree United Methodist Church
has grown from 567 members and 440 in attendance to more than 2,500 members and 1,200 in
worship each week. In February, the church broke ground on its second sanctuary so it will
have two buildings to accommodate its growing congregation.
Kathy Turner, Suntree's lay leader, said the church has grown
through adhering to a three-part strategy- attracting the seeker, growing the believer and
meeting the needs of the people.

Volunteers travel across the
seas for Celebrate Jesus
Clergy and laity from across the Florida Conference flocked to
the West Palm Beach District July 28-Aug. 4 for the Florida Conference's sixth Celebrate
Jesus mission week. A pastor from Cuba and four people from the United Kingdom also made
the trip to help 26 churches revitalize their outreach ministries.
Two other people, one each from West Africa and Haiti, were
scheduled but unable to travel to Florida. Full Story
