Purpose, passion keys to growing church

The Rev. Adam Hamilton, senior pastor of the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Kansas City, Mo., said the foundation of church growth is purpose and passion among the people.
Hamilton was at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, Orlando, Feb. 8 for a seminar on how large churches become regional churches. The Rev. Mont Duncan, the Florida Conference's director of New Church Development and Church Redevelopment, said a regional church is one that can reach out to the culture and population in large numbers.   Full Story

Helping community helps Ridge Manor church grow

Many churches in the Lakeland District are preparing to participate in this summer's Celebrate Jesus missions, but Community United Methodist Church in Ridge Manor is already in mission to its community.

Church struggles with growth issues

Most people would say a church with more than 4,000 members, more than 2,000 in worship, a 40-person staff and ministries that are touching lives throughout its city is not a struggling church. Yet the Rev. Bill Barnes, pastor of that church, struggles with what it means for his church, St. Luke's United Methodist Church, Orlando, to be a regional church. Full Story

Kids Will Be Kids

LAKELAND - Jake Walker got a chance last month to hang out with a few kids, a couple of lambs, a calf, a pony and a pair of piglets. The animals were at First United Methodist Church, Lakeland, Feb. 10 to help kick off the church's "Fill the Ark" campaign to benefit Heifer Project International. The campaign is sponsored by the children's Sunday school classes. The children learned about the Heifer Project and each kid received a bank and calendar they can use to raise money for the ministry.

Church growth is pastor's dream

Within the last year, Carlson United Methodist Church in LaBelle has grown by 50 percent, added a second worship service and increased its Sunday school attendance. It is now operating at almost 100 percent capacity.
The growth is the result of efforts begun two years ago to develop a plan to make disciples for Jesus Christ.  Full Story
