Easum, Bandy challenge churches to get moving
The Revs. Tom Bandy and Bill Easum, nationally-recognized church leadership consultants, were in Orlando as part of last month's four-stop tour of Florida. The two challenged churches to discern where Jesus was going after he disappeared on the road to Emmaus in Luke 24: 13-35.
Bandy said that in the 35 years since the peak of denominational membership, Jesus has been sending the church into ministry with Gentiles and modern pagans.

Bishop appoints new superintendents
Bishop Timothy W. Whitaker announced earlier this month the appointment of two new district superintendents. The appointments will begin following the licensing, consecration and ordination service at the Florida Annual Conference Event May 28-31.
The Rev. Dr. Terry Markins, pastor of First United Methodist Church, St. Petersburg, succeeds the Rev. Walter Edwards as superintendent of the Leesburg District. The Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Stiggins, pastor of Titusville's Indian River City United Methodist Church, succeeds the Rev. W. Dean Witten as superintendent of the Orlando District. Edwards and Witten are retiring this year.

Leesburg ministry unites churches to help neighborhood
Carver Heights Ministries is a ministry of the Leesburg District that has united seven different denominations under the one goal of changing the lives of children who live in the Carver Heights area of Leesburg.
The ministry began two years ago last December as a project of the Leesburg District, but now receives funds and volunteers from local Presbyterian, Baptist, Roman Catholic, Episcopal and African Methodist Episcopal churches and the Church of God.

United Methodist's art featured at seminary
Reesa Boyce, a member of Memorial United Methodist Church in Lake Placid, produced 20 separate collages of biblical women, ranging from Eve to Miriam to the Samaritan Woman, all with contemporary faces chosen from magazines.
The 10 Old Testament and 10 New Testament depictions can be examined from three different levels: artistic design, the biblical stories and women's issues.

Tampa area nets grant for television ads
The combined efforts of the Tampa and St. Petersburg districts earned a grant from the Igniting Ministry office of United Methodist Communications (UMCom) to help buy nearly 100 television ads during Lent.
UMCom announced last month that the two districts will receive a $17,689 grant, half the money needed to buy 96 thirty-second ads on the local ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox network affiliates. The ads will reach 77 percent of the 3.5 million viewers in the Tampa Bay area an average of three times.
