Participants at the third gathering of the Florida Conference's Conference Table reached a preliminary consensus on new vision and mission statements for the Florida Conference. Team sees Brazilian ministries in action

In September, a group of eight women-all Florida Conference clergy spouses- visited four Brazilian communities to observe firsthand the needs and dreams taking shape there. The team was led by Melba Whitaker, wife of Florida Conference Bishop Timothy Whitaker.
The trip was part of the United Methodist Bishops' Spouses Association's covenant relationship with the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), to serve as mission interpreters in their own conferences. It was intended to build support for the denomination's annual One Great Hour of Sharing offering, which funds UMCOR's administration and ongoing ministries, as well as increase missional support from the clergy spouses' home churches.   Full Story

Many of those churches said they are also honest and open with members about the financial situation. Others are refinancing loans, applying for grants and forming outside partnerships.
