New book helps Haitians reach out
A Haitian Creole translation of the "Basics of Christian Conversion and the Essentials for Leading a Person to Christ," completed by the Rev. Jacques Pierre, pastor of Lakeland's Highlands United Methodist Church, is giving Haitian United Methodists a new tool for sharing their faith. It's also helping them feel more a part of the denomination.

Florida lay speakers translate materials
United Methodists who speak Spanish, Haitian Creole, Korean and Vietnamese will soon be able to participate in the Lay Speaking Ministry (LSM) basic course in their own language through the efforts of the Florida Conference's LSM leaders and money from the General Board of Discipleship.

Hispanic ministry team begins reorganization process

Comprehensive Plan for Hispanic Ministry, a team of 15 leaders met to begin the process of formally implementing the plan in the
conference. One of the first steps is restructuring the conference's Hispanic leadership.

Tampa churches cluster for mutual ministry |
School supply drives, holiday food collection, Christmas cantatas and Easter sunrise services are just a few of the ministries five churches in north Tampa do together. Working since 1992 as the North Tampa Cluster of the United Methodist Church, the churches have found that cooperation allows them to do things none of them would be able to do alone.

Men hold new retreat to meet big need
"The church is very family-oriented, and there's a large group of singles who are in the church, but not in the church," said John Dowell, president of the Florida Conference United Methodist Men (UMM).
For that reason, the UMM held its first Singles Retreat Oct. 27-29 at the Life Enrichment Center in Leesburg. Nearly 150 people attended the weekend retreat, which was designed specifically as a time of spiritual renewal for single adults.
