Delegates make decision on proposed forum
Lay and clergy delegates to the 2002 Florida Annual Conference Event May 28-31 in Lakeland will have the opportunity to vote on a proposal calling for the creation of the new Conference Table.
The Conference Table is proposed as a forum at which conference leaders will listen, discern, reflect and make recommendations about matters of strategic concern for the Florida Conference. The Table will have no decision-making power or official authority in the conference, but will be required to report its discussions and recommendations to the annual conference.

Parents see kids at camp live, on-line
The Tuesday and Thursday evening worship services at the Florida Conference's summer camps is the culmination of all that has happened during the day, according to Mike Standifer, the conference's director of Youth, Young Adult and Summer Camp ministries.
This year, parents will be able to share that experience with their children though a Web site that will offer streaming video and audio of the services.

New church takes new approach in downtown Orlando
New Hope United Methodist Church has no building or geographic region, but does have a target demographic group-the urban, post-modern community. It is also receiving no funding from its district board of missions and church extension. And that combination makes it unique among new church starts in the United Methodist Church, according to founding co-pastor the Rev. Jack Jackson.

Weekly sermons form basis for small groups
In at least two churches in the Florida Conference, small group ministry is helping members delve more deeply into the weekly scripture lesson and sermon. The United Methodist Church of the Palm Beaches and St. Andrew's United Methodist Church in Brandon are working with a concept the Palm Beach church calls "Together and Growing" (TAG) Teams, which meet weekly to discuss the week's lessons and hold each other accountable in Wesleyan style.

Conference selects director of Hispanic ministries
The Rev. Cruz Edwin Santos, pastor of First Hispanic Mission at First United Methodist Church, Kissimmee, was recently selected to serve as the Florida Conference's first director of Hispanic ministries. His appointment becomes effective at the close of the 2002 Florida Annual Conference Event May 28-31 in Lakeland.
The director's position was created at the 2000 Florida Annual Conference Event. It was part of a proposal that adopted the National Plan for Hispanic Ministry and provided $125,000 to support its implementation.
